Don’t Let Others Blow Your Qi: Protecting the Energy You Cultivate
For more than 45 years, I have been deeply involved in longevity practices, meditation, Medical Qi Gong, Taoist exercises, Buddhist teachings, yoga, and the cultivation of internal energy. Throughout those years, I have learned that building energy is only one part of the practice. The greater challenge is learning how to retain it.
We may spend hours, days, or even years cultivating greater awareness, vitality, focus, and inner peace. Then one angry outburst, impulsive decision, or emotional confrontation can scatter much of what we worked so hard to develop.
The Power of Three Deep Breaths
This morning I woke to what I thought was the sound of rain. As I lay quietly in bed, I took a few deep breaths, hoping to catch the fresh scent of a passing shower. Then I realized it wasn't rain at all—it was my neighbor's sprinkler gently tapping against my bedroom window.
That simple moment reminded me of one of the easiest yet most powerful healing practices I know:
Take three deep breaths.
It sounds almost too simple, but sometimes the smallest habits create the greatest changes.
